Street Children: We partner with 2 projects in Ukraine and Siberia, feeding and providing day-to-day help for children and their families who live on the edge of existence. They also run day and night shelters and offer support to the families.
Orphans: We sponsor a project in Ukraine that seek to meet the emotional, educational and material needs of orphans and orphan graduates. One project also supports families that have chosen to foster children.
Disabled Children: In both Belarus and Moldova there are centres for supporting children born with disabilities. Here they find support, fellowship and medical therapy with other children and as they grow older they can attend weekend clubs.
What happens to sponsorship money?
With the exception of £1 per month every single penny of your sponsorship money is spent on the child’s needs. This includes providing food, clothing, medicine or special needs equipment, as well as an education, vocational training, therapy or medical assistance, depending on the specific needs of your child. Our project partners review each child’s situation, to see how best your money can be spent to help your child reach their full potential.
The small management cost enables ChildAid to send you an introductory pack, which includes a photograph of your child, details about them and their circumstances, and some information about the area they come from. We will send you update reports, and where possible, these will include letters or drawings from your child. You are more than welcome to write short letters or cards to your child, which we will translate and send for you*
*We suggest that these letters be sent at most once every 6 months. All correspondence should be sent through ChildAid, and not directly to the child. In the same way, the child will not be given your address, but ChildAid will forward you their letters. Please note that some of the children are illiterate, and may not be able to write you a letter. The project leaders will read letters to the child on your behalf, inform you of their progress and encourage them to send drawings.
To sponsor a child for £16 per month or abandoned babies/project for £5.50 per month, you need to send us a completed Child Sponsorship Form. We encourage sponsors to pay by Standing Order, direct from your bank to ChildAid, as this keeps administration costs as low as possible. Send us your completed Standing Order Form, telling us whether you want to pay monthly, quarterly or annually. If you are a UK taxpayer and are willing for us to reclaim tax from the Inland Revenue under the Gift Aid scheme, please fill out the Gift Aid Form.
