Remember to budget. Your event needs to raise money – not cost you money!
Consider all likely costs, be pessimistic, before you start out!
Expenses : personal costs incurred by setting up and running the event (such as food, drinks, transport, postage) can be claimed against the event.
Do not pay yourself a fee for organising the event – it is illegal!
When you submit to ChildAid the monies raised include a record of all costs, and receipts if possible, and let us know if this has been taken off from the donation or if you wish us to reimburse you

Wherever possible and practical get donations Gift Aided
ChildAid can claim back tax at base rate – 28p for every £1 donated
It costs you, us and the donor nothing!
Your sponsor must have paid Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in the UK equal to the amount of tax that will be reclaimed
Pensioners can still pay tax on a private pension plan or savings – even Capital Gains
If you or your sponsor pays the high rate tax it is possible to reclaim tax or nominate ChildAid to receive a further 18%
For us to claim Gift Aid you need to get the full name and address of anyone who sponsors you and sent the details with the money you have raised.
We can’t claim Gift Aid on
- membership or registration fees
- price paid for entrance tickets to an event
- price paid for anything brought or raffle ticket sales
